Roman Blue Silk Kimono
I was recently commissioned to make a full length silk kimono for a lady using my Roman Blue design.
“I would love a silk Kimono, for the evening, full length”.
An original archive repeat pattern inspired by the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea and the amazing cultural history of the area,
the swirling lapiz blue water and the scroll-work of Roman frescoes in artichoke green and bronze.
The initial design was hand painted on paper. I wanted the colours to be slightly more vibrant than the original, the never ending motif spirals across the fabric making for a dramatic statement piece which will look amazing with the lady’s violet eyes.
Already worked in repeat the design needed to be translated into digital format ready for printing onto metres of glorious silk like the water of the Mediterranean itself .
Then the pattern cutting began!
